Ryki, Throw You Down Music Video and Single:
Ryki has released a brand new single and music video, entitled: Throw You Down. Her debut self-titled EP, set for release on 3 March, is also available for pre-order, with fans receiving 4 tracks instantly upon order.
Throw You Down is the lead single from the extended player offering and it showcases a new, fresh side of her that’s set to shake up the local South African pop market. The single came into being last year August when she flew to Cape Town to work with producers David Balshaw and Bubele Booi. The lyrics are spoken from a heartbreaker’s point of view; a careless and selfish lover that takes but never gives. The song has a driving 808 Hip Hop influence that lends itself to being dark and moody yet Pop and uplifting at the same time.
Throw You Down stays true to Ryki’s signature breathy, smokey vocals and touching lyrics. Ryki describes the single as “a whole new brand for me; the production is closer to the vibe I would like to work towards and this song is closer to my heart than any of her previous offerings”.
The video is the perfect fit to the song’s dark and sultry texture with a strong focus on fashion and elegance. With RYKI as the centerpiece, the video switches between striking shots of the singer dressed in one of a kind designs by Suzaan Heyns, Black Coffee, Joel Janse Van Vuuren and Avant Apparel.
Directed by Waldo Pretorius and JT Moatshe and shot over the course of two days at Panalux Studios.
