Brett Magill and Electronic Dance Music:
It’s an interesting world we live in, everything is going or has gone digital. Just like music, and while electronic music has been around for about two decades, or is it five minutes, in its current form, it’s always evolving. We could go as far as to say that, electronic music has been around since a rock god from the 50s plugged his keyboard into an amp.
But that’s the amazing thing about music, there’s always something new to create, listen to and enjoy.
I got involved with the team at EVE recently, and they told me about their new event featuring Protoculture and Mark Stent, and honestly, I’ve never really considered the local electronic dance music scene as much as the local indie rock scene.
Working with All Local South African Music:
Electronic music to me was always for the rich kids in school. The weirder kids listened to rock. But, the more I’ve worked with the DJs representing at EVE, the more I’ve realised that they’re just as hardworking and dedicated to their music as any other musician.
If I’m going to embrace local music, I can’t be limited to one genre or style of festival, everyone needs to be invited to the party!
Starting out with EVE, I’m hoping that this is going to expand my music world, help me meet some more great people and make the world a better place: from Hip-hop to House! I’m not even going to talk about Chutney House yet, that’s a whole other crazy story which, I’m sure we’ll get into at some point. (seriously, what the hell is Chutney House).
EVE Feat. Protoculture in October:
Hailed by many of his peers as South Africa’s biggest dance music export!
Protoculture, as a DJ and live performer, ranked South Africa’s number one DJ according to the DJ Mag Top 100 polls from 2011 to present, has also played alongside a diverse range of international heavyweights such as Paul van Dyk, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Armin van Buuren, Orbital, Future Sound of London, Gareth Emery, Sander van Doorn to name but a few.
EVE South Africa brings life back into South Africa’s dance scene by promoting both indoor and outdoor dance music events/festivals. Our aim is to promote local Dj talent on an international scale. Expect an Electronic Visual Experience like no other.
One of those passionate DJs I mentioned is Iain Wylder! Both a talented DJ and passionate human all around, here’s some of what he’s bringing to this show:
