Laudo Liebenberg Rocks at Blood Brothers and Park Acoustics

Laudo Liebenberg on Park Acoustics and Blood Brothers 2018:

While I’ve not followed Laudo Liebenberg as much as I should have in the past, there’s no debating his musical talent and the impact he and aKing have had on the music industry in South Africa.

Over the next two months, Laudo Liebenberg will be performing at Park Acoustics Spring Edition, and of course: Blood Brothers 2018.

Laudo Liebenberg vs aKing:

Brett Magill (BM): Laudo, you’ve got quite the line-up this month! Park Acoustics and a show at Blood Brothers 2018; it all got me thinking about how other musicians I know talk about their side projects or solo shows, do you struggle to balance out the two brands and bands between Laudo Liebenberg and aKing?

Laudo Liebenberg: I haven’t really performed a lot under my own name, only collaborations, and guest appearances, so it hasn’t been a major juggling act.

aKING doesn’t perform as much as we used to and everyone in the band is busy with side-projects as well so we just communicate and take it from there.

BM: Do you think that there is a big difference between a Laudo Liebenberg show and an aKing show? What can fans expect from you at this month’s Blood Brothers show, considering it’s such a big crowd.

aKing Jezebel:

Laudo Liebenberg: I really haven’t done a lot of solo performances.  It’ll be mostly aKING songs that I’ll be performing at Blood Brothers alongside a big band and guests – also a few covers. The whole dynamic of this show will be different to any show I’ve been a part of so fans can expect an energetic new take on all the songs we’ll be performing with great artists. A massive collaboration with a production to match.

Crash Test Dummies came to Town:

BM: Laudo, this may sound bad, but Google keeps referring me to news about you and Crash Test Dummies, so while we’re on the subject, how was it performing alongside CTD, how was the energy?

Also, since we’re talking other bands in your interview (slaps head), where does your inspiration come from, who did you listen to on your bed all those years ago that inspired you to pick up the guitar in the first place?

Laudo Liebenberg:  It was a great honor to open for CTD, I’ve been a fan for years and never expected them to do a tour in South Africa.

I used to and still listen to classic rock bands that influence me to this day. As a kid, I was drawn to the guitar and singing, so it was inevitable that I’d pick up an abandoned guitar that was in our house and start learning the songs I listened to at the time.

We’re taking our time to release something fresh and different to what we’ve done in the past.

BM: I’ve not heard anything about new material from you lately (I could have missed the news), so what’s new under the sun for you as Laudo Liebenberg? Anything coming from aKing for the rest of 2018?

Laudo Liebenberg: AKING is currently in studio recording a couple of new songs. We’re taking our time to release something fresh and different to what we’ve done in the past. I’ve also recorded an Afrikaans single that I plan on releasing under my own name later this year.

Making a Difference with Music at Blood Brothers 2018:

BM: Do you think shows like Blood Brothers are important, or is it just another gig? Is Blood Brothers different for you?

Laudo Liebenberg: Of course Blood Brothers is different from anything else I’ve been a part of, it’s for a great cause and with artists, I respect and admire, so what’s not to love about this project. The experience for the audience as well as the people on stage is going to be overwhelming and magical.

BM: As you’re jamming away this September and working the stage; if I had to throw a drink on stage for you and the crew, what is your poison of choice? *No shame in choosing water!

Laudo Liebenberg: I think it’ll be water for this one. The size of the production is huge and the nerves will play a long with that idea. Be at your best and bring it!

Laudo will be performing at Park Acoustics and Blood Brothers over September, so be sure to grab your tickets in the buttons and don’t miss out!
